uscg cutter shrikeNEW YORK — The Coast Guard assisted in the apprehension of a man wanted on an outstanding warrant in Sandy Hook Bay, New Jersey, Friday.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., Coast Guard Cutter Shrike conducted a boarding on commercial fishing vessel Scapper.

During the boarding, it was discovered that the male crewmember aboard the vessel had one outstanding warrant for the use of dangerous drugs.

Cutter Shrike and a Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook boatcrew detained the suspect and escorted the vessel to Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office New Jersey arrived at Station Sandy Hook at approximately 3:20 p.m.

The Cutter Shrike boarding team transferred custody of the crewmember to the Union County Sherriff’s Office for extradition.

“The Coast Guard will often work with local law enforcement officers to help identify persons with warrants or other issues of concern,” said Capt. Jason Tama, commander of Coast Guard Sector New York. “This is an example of the outstanding cooperation we have with local law enforcement personnel.”

Coast Guard Cutter Shrike is an 87-foot Patrol Boat homeported in Sandy Hook, New Jersey.
