RED BANK, NJ - Red Bank TOWNWIDE YARD SALE is back! Mark your calendar for Saturday, May 5 from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Red Bank Public Library is once again organizing what is now a biannual event in town. To be included on the map, you must register. Registration takes place April 25-May 2, in person at the Library, online, or by mail (must be received by May 2). The registration form will be available beginning April 25. Registration fee is $10 with all proceeds benefitting the Library. Rain date Sunday, May 6, according to individual sellers’ discretion.

The Red Bank Public Library has been nominated for the New Jersey State Library Multicultural Program Award for the LET’S TALK ABOUT RACE series. The purpose of the award is to “recognize and encourage library programs that increase understanding and promote multiculturalism in New Jersey’s public libraries,” and this is certainly true of this series, which has become a permanent forum for the community to explore important topics. DISPLAYS: Through June, we are pleased to welcome artist Steve Schiro. S.O. Schiro graduated from Alfred University and began a career in residential remodeling, while pursuing interests in music, painting, and writing. In 2000, after attending a poetry reading, he joined a poetry-writing group and began writing poetry and prose on a regular basis. His poetry has been published in Jersey Shore Poets. Steve is a Monmouth County native & library patron who lives, works, writes, and paints in Red Bank.
FOOD DRIVE: Please help us fight hunger and poverty in New Jersey by assisting those in need. We are collecting canned and dry goods for Lunch Break to be used in their food pantry. Lunch Break provides food, clothing, life skills and fellowship to those in need in Monmouth County and beyond. All donations are greatly appreciated.

Back by Popular Demand: Historic Red Bank Walking Tours one Saturday per month. Remaining dates are May 5, & June 2 at 11:00 a.m. Each tour is about an hour and a half in length. Kathy Lou Colmorgen will be the guide for the group. Tours are weather-permitting. Registration is highly recommended. 20-person maximum per tour. Senior Day: We are building a day monthly just for our Seniors! Every 2ndThursday of the Month (May 10) we will now FORGIVE FINES FOR SENIORS! You must be 62 or older. This does not include lost/missing items. At 3:00 p.m. each Senior Day, join our Handcrafting Group for Crochet, Needlepoint, Knitting, or Embroidery. The Library will provide the space and refreshments. You bring whatever it is you are working on and share conversation with fellow yarn crafters. We will continue to add Senior Day programs throughout the year.
We are delighted to have River Read Reading Series co-organizer Linda Johnston Muhlhausen as a special guest author at the library on Wednesday, May 23, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room. Linda will talk about her novel Elephant Mountain and her work as a poet and her writing inspiration. Refreshments will be served. The next meeting of the Artists’ Workshop at the Red Bank Public Library is Thursday, May 3, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Artists seeking inspiration, motivation and time to devote to their work are invited to attend on the first Thursday of each month. Red Bank artist Joe Bergholm is the Workshop’s Artist-in-Residence and consults with the artists as a group, as well as individually. He offers suggestions for subjects as well as guidance in principles of art such as color, composition, and the selection and use of materials. The Artists’ Workshop is free and no registration is required. Participants should bring their own drawing and painting materials. Oils are not permitted because of ventilation concerns. The program is supported by a generous contribution from the Friends of the Red Bank Public Library.
The NJSL Multicultural Award-Winning Program LET’S TALK ABOUT RACE continues on Wednesday, May 30, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room. In this popular and important series we continue to discuss and explore issues of race, gender, class, and culture. This month’s topic will be DACA & Immigration Reform with Itzel Perez of the “Awaken” Community Group, Rita Dentino, Director of Casa Freehold, and other panel members. Refreshments will be served. English as a Second Language classes for adults 18 & over are conducted by the Literacy Volunteers of Monmouth County at the Red Bank Public Library. The course will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:45 – 8:45 p.m. These classes are free, and new participants are welcome to join. Classes will end on May 24 and resume in the fall. Please bring a pen and paper to take notes. The Red Bank Senior Center, in cooperation with the Red Bank Public Library, hosts a Book Discussion Group on the last Monday of each month at the Senior Center at 1:00 p.m., except in December. Borough residents age 60 and over may join the Center and participate in this or any of its other great programs.

The Children’s Room offers free drop-in Story Times for young children with a caregiver every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. and Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Come for fun stories, musical activities, and a related craft.
It’s Game On @ the Library, Thursdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and all day Saturdays. Come for family friendly games set up for play on a drop-in basis. Our Anime Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. If anime is your passion, meet up with other fans to paint, draw and learn about Japanese culture. Watch a program and have a snack, too! For ages 10 and up. Registration is suggested.
Hang out with friends at Movie Time! Watch a fun family film and enjoy a snack. Movie Time will be held on Thursday, May 24 at 6:00 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room. For ages 5 & up. No registration is required.
