Presbyterians issue invitation to Sunday's service at harbor; Elder Sue Smith guest preacher
ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS -- The Elder Sue Smith will be Sunday's guest preacher when the First Presbyterian Church holds its worship service in the gazebo at the municipal harbor.
All area residents are invited to attend the service, which starts at 11 a.m. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held in the 127-year-old church at Third and East Highland avenues.
Smith, who lives in Middletown Township, is the recently elected moderator of the Monmouth Presbytery of the national Presbyterian Church USA. She is a member and ruling elder of the Rumson Presbyterian Church.
Her sermon title will be entitled "Promises, Promises," which will be based on Genesis 21:8-21. The topic is expected to be remembering God's promises when it feels like we have been deserted.
Elder Judy Curry-Phipps will be the liturgist for the service.
Musical director David Nunez will lead the adult choir and the congregation during the service.
Among Sunday's hymns will be "All Who Are Thirsty, "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," "We Are One in the Spirit," "I Come With Joy" and "O Master, Let Me Walk With Thee."
The church will hold its next harbor service on Sunday, July 23. Outdoor services will also be held on the fourth Sunday of August and September
Vacation Bible School will be conducted by the Area Association of Community Churches July 10-14 at the three Third avenue Protestant churches and will be run by staffers from Camp Johnsonburg Presbyterian Camp and other volunteers.
