Atlantic Highlands, NJ - The Front Porch Club’s 11th Annual Chilifest will be held on Saturday, September 26, from 3 to 9 pm at the Sandy Hook Bay Catamaran Club. The popular event is expected to draw hundreds of guests to the new venue on the Atlantic Highlands beachfront.
The Blind Owl Band will return from Vermont to headline the musical line up, while Atlantic Highlands’ own Carton Brewing and Brinley Gold Shipwreck Rum will provide beverages to complement the chili from dozens of local competitors.
In honor of the 11th anniversary, the theme of this year’s Chilifest is the movie “This is Spinal Tap,” the 1980’s heavy metal mockumentary that features an amplifier that goes to 11.
“Chilifest has something for everyone,” said Benson Chiles, an event organizer, “It’s a great community event. We thought we were done after 10 years, but my kids think it is as good as Christmas, so we’re back at it again with great kids’ activities, including a soccer tournament.”
Proceeds will benefit the new Henry Hudson Tri-District Education Foundation and the District’s new STEM Academy, arts and athletics programs. “It’s an important cause, and we appreciate the enthusiastic support we’ve recthe community,” said Chiles.
The title sponsor of the event this year is Kevin Smith, the award-winning movie producer and writer of Clerks, Chasing Amy, Jersey Girl, and many other films. Smith is an alumnus of Henry Hudson Regional School. Many local businesses and individuals are also supporting the event with donations and volunteer time.
