MIDDLETOWN, NJ - At their February meeting, the Township Committee recognized the 100th anniversary of the United States Naval Reserve. Mayor Stephanie C. Murray and the Middletown Township Committee issued the following proclamation:

100th Anniversary
WHEREAS: On March 3, 2015 the nation will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the United States Navy Reserve, and
WHEREAS: The mission of the Navy Reserve is to deliver operational capability and strategic depth to the Navy, Marine Corps and Joint Forces, and
WHEREAS: Reservists have played integral roles in pivotal points in history including World War I and World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and the Global War on Terror, and
WHEREAS: Today’s Navy reserve sailors continue to serve as a force multiplier and are relied upon to fill a wide spectrum of missions around the globe.They are guided by the motto Ready Then. Ready Now. Ready Always., and
WHEREAS: The Navy Reserve has over 100,000 reservists and 123 Navy Operational Support Centers including one in the Leonardo section of Middletown at Naval Weapons Station Earle, and
WHEREAS: The Mayor and Township Committee wish to take this opportunity to thank our Reservists for their service to the nation and support of our community.

THEREFORE: Be it proclaimed that I, Mayor Stephanie C. Murray and the Middletown Township Committee join in commemoration and celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Navy Reserve.
We respectfully honor the men and women of the United States Navy Reserve as they work to defend our homeland against terror attacks and lend invaluable support to countries around the world that are searching for the kind of freedom we too often take for granted.
