Timber, a certified therapy dog, visits the library three times a month to sit with and listen to hesitant readers and dog lovers too. Children age 5 and older can register for a free 15 minute Timber Time session. On Wednesday, November 6, 2013, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. author and historian Karen Schnitzspahn will take you on a mouthwatering historical tour from Sandy Hook to Cape May when she discusses her most recent book Jersey Shore Food History: Victorian Feasts to Boardwalk Treats. Karen will present an illustrated talk, answer questions, and sign copies of her book, a great Holiday gift idea for those who love the Jersey Shore, its historic and beloved eating establishments, its food and recipes! Join the next meeting of the Artists’ Workshop for adults at the Red Bank Public Library on Thursday, November 7, 2013, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Artists seeking inspiration, motivation, and time to devote to their work are invited to attend the Artists’ Workshop for the regular meetings on the first Thursday of each month. Red Bank artist Joe Bergholm is our Artist-in-Residence and works with the artists as a group and individually, offering suggestions for subjects as well as guidance in principles of art such as color, composition, and the selection and use of materials. The Artists’ Workshop is free and no registration is required. Participants should bring their own drawing and painting materials, although oils are not permitted because of ventilation concerns.

Smartphones are everywhere, but using them can be daunting since they are much more than just a phone. The River Read Reading Series, featuring monthly readings by noted poets and open mic poetry, takes place on Saturday, November 9, 2013, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Red Bank Public Library. Lauren Schmidt, a professor at Passaic Community College, will read from her third book of poetry recently published by Main Street Rag. The public is invited to this free program. The Red Bank Public Library offers free weekly one-hour Yoga for Adults on Fridays from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Allison Sorokin teaches the class, which is appropriate to all levels of yoga experience.

The Red Bank Public Library New Jersey History Room is open every Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and by appointment. Researchers, genealogists, local historians, and students are invited to browse the collection and enjoy historic displays about the area’s people, places, and events. Featured in the exhibit area throughout 2013 will be items from the collections of Glenn Vogel, long time collector of anything “Red Bank.” Glenn will rotate his collections of photographs, postcards, bottles, jugs, jars, and all manner of ephemera and memorabilia related to the history of Red Bank so that every month something new and different will be on display to challenge the recollections of even the most knowledgeable Red Banker. The Red Bank Senior Center in cooperation with the Red Bank Public Library hosts a book discussion group on the last Monday of each month at the Senior Center at 1:00 p.m. except in December. Red Bank Borough residents age 60 and over are welcome to join the Center and participate in this or any of its other great programs.
For adults 18 and over interested in photography and writing, the Red Bank Photography Club and the Red Bank Writers Group meet at the Red Bank Public Library on the first Monday of each month from 7:00 to 8:45 p.m. The Jersey Inchkins is a club made up of adults who do "very little work.” Club members build houses, rooms, scenes, and vignettes in miniature, usually on a scale of one inch to one foot. Jersey Inchkins meets at the library on the third Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Each group welcomes new members interested in developing their skills in these creative fields.
