MIDDLETOWN, NJ - At 2:27 PM on Saturday May 4th, 2013, the Middletown Township Fire Department was dispatched to 66 Carter Avenue in the East Keansburg section of the Township for a “structure fire” at that location. Approximately 45 firefighters from 4 companies of the Middletown Township Fire Department (East Keansburg, Port Monmouth, Belford Engine and Community Fire Companies), under the command of Department Chief John D’Altilio, responded to the scene. Deputy Chief Peter Laimann observed heavy smoke and fire coming from the single story structure upon his arrival and immediately requested additional resources. The firefighters encountered heavy fire in the attic spaces and eventually assumed a defensive exterior attack because of concerns about the integrity of the structure. The firefighters brought the fire under control by 3:45 PM. Crews remained on the scene until 6:00 PM extinguishing hot spots.
Also assisting at the scene were the MTFD Air Unit and the Middletown, Port Monmouth and Leonardo First Aid Squads.
There were no reported injuries.
The fire is being investigated by the Middletown Township Fire Prevention Bureau.
