Event Will Begin Promptly at 1pm and Feature State Officials
Keansburg, NJ –Keansburg Amusement Park will be hosting a grand re-opening event on May 18, 2013. We anticipate the event to begin with our distinguished speakers promptly at 1pm.
Keansburg Amusement Park was completely devastated in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Located on the Raritan Bay waterfront, the park flooded after a flood wall berm broke early in the storm. Game stands were ripped apart like tin foil. The Wildcat, our roller coaster, was buried under five feet of sand. Arcade games and kiddie rides dating from the 1930s were carried over a half mile away.
However, the Gehlhaus family, the park’s owners, turned this devastation into a story of triumph. Keansburg Amusement Park has been completely rebuilt and reopened on our regular season schedule March 23. We purchased new rides and games for kids of all ages while preserving our historic collection, and we invested millions in major aesthetic improvements.
Keansburg Amusement Park is New Jersey’s oldest amusement park, dating back to 1905, and remains in the Gehlhaus family. Over the last century Keansburg has been a place of fun and laughter for millions of visitors. We believe it represents a vital part of what defines New Jersey.
The event will include a few speeches by officials such as New Jersey Senator Joseph Kyrillos, refreshments, and a historic photo tribute by the “Keansburg Boardwalk Kids.” These photos showcase a century of families visiting Keansburg Amusement Park, collected by a group of Keansburg Amusement Park supporters. We will also feature local entertainment and prize giveaways.
