RED BANK, NJ -Children are invited to enjoy a variety of programming in the Avice Noblett Children’s Room of the Red Bank Public Library in May.
Timber, a certified therapy dog, visits the library twice a month to sit with and listen to hesitant readers and dog lovers too. Children age 5 and over can register for a free 15 minute Timber Time session on the first and third Wednesday of each month between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. Timber is a beautiful, patient, loving, and gentle listener. Artsy Smartsy will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2013, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Children 5 and older will learn about the art of Vincent Van Gogh and create their own versions of his famous painting Sunflowers.
Children with a day off from school on Friday, May 24, 2013, are invited to Movie Time at 2:30. Join the Immortal Guardians as they team up to protect the innocence of children all around the world.
Come to the Rockin’ Readers Tween Book Club on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. for children ages 9 to 12. Call the library to find out the title of the book we will talk about in May.

The Children’s Room also offers free drop-in Storytimes for young children with a caregiver on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Join us for some quick stories, musical activities, and a craft. Spanish Storytimes for young children with a caregiver are offered on the third Tuesday of the month at 11:00 a.m. Registration is not required for storytimes.
“Your Health Benefits Checkup” will mark Older Americans Month in the Adult Department of the Red Bank Public Library on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. This free program will be presented jointly by the National Council on Aging and Alcoeur Gardens. Join the next meeting of the Artists’ Workshop for adults at the Red Bank Public Library on Thursday, May 2, 2013, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Artists seeking inspiration, motivation, and time to devote to their work are invited to attend the “Artists’ Workshop” on the first Thursday of each month. Red Bank artist Joe Bergholm is our Artist-in-Residence and works with the artists as a group and individually, offering suggestions for subjects as well as guidance in principles of art such as color, composition, and the selection and use of materials. The Artists’ Workshop is free and no registration is required. Participants should bring their own drawing and painting materials,
although oils are not permitted because of ventilation concerns.
Anyone interested in the art of collage is invited to the free monthly Collage Klatch at the Red Bank Public Library on Saturday, May 4, 2013, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The group’s leader is the library’s Local History Librarian, Elizabeth McDermott. Colleen Smith, MA, MSW, LSW, of the Monmouth County Office on Aging, leads regularly scheduled Caregiver’s Support Groups at the Red Bank Public Library. The meeting date in May will be Wednesday, May 8, 2013, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday, May 21, 2013, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. These free programs are available to anyone who is a caregiver for a person over the age of 60. Caregivers are invited to come and relax while finding resources and information with a supportive group of peers. The Red Bank Public Library’s Acoustic Saturday music series wraps up its spring season on May 18 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with the band The Blind Tellers performing a great mix of folk, blues, and soul (https://blindtellers.bandcamp.com). The library presents this free concert series, hosted by Anton Daub and featuring the best singers, songwriters, and acoustic musicians on the Jersey Shore and beyond. The Red Bank Public Library offers the free weekly one-hour Yoga for Adults on Fridays from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Amy Novak, a graduate of the Institute for Therapeutic Massage and
experienced yoga instructor, teaches the class, which is appropriate to all levels of yoga experience.
Please bring your own yoga mat. Registration is not required. Participants attend on a first come, first served basis up to a total of twenty people.
Free one-on-one Resume Help is offered at the Red Bank Public Library on selected Saturdays between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. Our librarian volunteer provides assistance writing a new resume or updating an old one and explains the free online career resources provided by the New Jersey State Library. The Red Bank Public Library New Jersey History Room is open every Tuesday from 2:00
to 4:00 p.m. and by appointment. Researchers, genealogists, local historians, and students are invited to browse the collection and enjoy historic displays about the area’s people, places, and events. Featured in the exhibit area throughout 2013 will be items from the collections of Glenn Vogel, long time collector of anything “Red Bank.” Glenn will rotate his collections of photographs,
postcards, bottles, jugs, jars, and all manner of ephemera and memorabilia related to the history of Red Bank so that every month something new and different will be on display to challenge the recollections of even the

The Board of Trustees of the Red Bank Public Library will meet on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. at the library.
The Red Bank Senior Center in cooperation with the Red Bank Public Library hosts a book discussion group on the last Monday of each month at the Senior Center at 1:00 p.m. except in December. Red Bank Borough residents age 60 and over are welcome to join the Center and
participate in this or any of its other great programs.
For adults 18 and over interested in photography and writing, the Red Bank Photography Club and the Red Bank Writers Group meet at the Red Bank Public Library on the first Monday of each month from 7:00 to 8:45 p.m. On Monday May 6, 2013, the Red Bank Photography Club will host the special program Interested in the Paranormal? with Kathy Kelly of the Paranormal Book Store in Asbury Park. The Jersey Inchkins is a club made up of adults who do "very little work.” Club members build houses, rooms, scenes, and vignettes in miniature, usually on a scale of one inch to one foot. Jersey Inchkins meets at the library on the third Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Each group welcomes new members interested in developing their skills in these creative fields.
