Dear Friend of NJSMC/NJSG:
Like many businesses, government agencies and non-profit organizations, The New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium/New Jersey Sea Grant (NJMSC/NJSG) has been affected by the current economic downturn which includes reduced foundation funding opportunities and the recent loss of our long-standing state appropriation.
We now face the formidable challenge of finding alternative means to help us “bridge the gap” to recover actual and anticipated lost financial resources. The organization is now broadening its efforts to obtain support for existing projects and activities and help finance new projects.
One of the organization’s first efforts in this area will be a Bridging the Gap Art Exhibit and Fundraiser Reception on Sunday October 24th, 2010 from 2 pm to 5 pm at Bahr’s Landing under the bridge in Highlands, NJ. The event will feature the art and photography of five well-recognized and respected area artists and their works that celebrate the Highlands Bridge, old and new as well as local coastal sites and scenery.
The artists work will be sold directly and selected works will be auctioned. Twenty-five per cent of the sales will be donated to the NJMSC/NJSG Education and Scholarship programs.
The ticket cost for the event is $35 per person ($40 per person if registration is received after September 30th) and includes the opportunity to meet and mingle with the artists and other Highland’s Bridge enthusiasts, assorted appetizers and snacks, beer, wine and soft drinks, drawings for original art and prints by participating artists and other prizes, a commemorative event keepsake and more. There will be special activities at the event including a chance to be part of a unique interactive eco-friendly rain barrel art project.
