Recently won the 2010 Oscar the Best Foreign Film of the year - Totally Deserves It.
This movie is totally engaging with tension from the 1st clip in terms that you are sincerely captivated one to the screen. You are following the lives of families set in Denmark (yes there are sub-titles) that cross within short and the older boys in each family whom form an odd and risky friendship.
Themes of marital tensions, bullying, cancer, medical heroism, adolescence, poverty, butchering, careers and more are so prominent and so well explored.
This movie totally immerses you into the characters lives and you actually feel an empathy for all of them.
I was exceptionally moved by the positive light shown by the director (Susanne Bier) on the two fathers. Where all to often, fathers are portrayed (often deservedly so) in a negative light, in their own way, both these fathers are extremely focused and concerned about their parent responsibilities. They in their own way show themselves to be exceptional role models and loving dads.
The bullying scenes set in Denmark are just as painful as watching the terrible situation in African refuge camp where Dad "Anton" saves many lives as a Doctor.
Then watch his anguish in having to treat the one man who was the source of the brutal injuries he saw.
This movie is just "So Good" -
