"A Cradle of the National Pastime: New Jersey Baseball, 1855 - 1880" presented by John Zinn
The Middletown Township Historical Society hosts John Zinn as he presents on the origins of baseball in the Garden State. Learn about the pioneers and players of this sport that grew into a national passion. This will be the final speaker in our 2020 Speaker Series!
John Zinn is an independent historian with special interest in the history of baseball. He is the chairman of the board of the New Jersey Historical Society and was the chair of New Jersey's Committee on the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War. John is the author of five books including three about the Brooklyn Dodgers, as well as numerous essays and articles. He also writes a blog on baseball history entitled A Manly Pastime. His biography of Charles Ebbets was awarded the 2018 Ron Gabriel Award for the best book about the Brooklyn Dodgers. John holds BA and MBA degrees from Rutgers University and is a Vietnam veteran.
The event is free to attend, but requires registration at https://www.MiddletownNJHistory.org. After you complete the brief registration form, you will receive an email that includes a link to the virtual event. Just click that link on November 16 a few minutes before 7:00 pm, enter the Password that will also be provided within your registration email, and you'll be welcomed into our event! You may be asked to download a Zoom application, if you don't already have it installed. You will watch the presentation on your screen, and can listen either through your device or your phone (instructions will be provided).
