In effort to address America's growing "skills gap" locally, the Monmouth County Guidance Directors' Association (MCGDA) is hosting a countywide Trade and Jobs Fair on February 28, 2019, from 6-8 p.m. at the Freehold Career Center, 1000 Kozloski Road, Freehold, N.J. 07728.
Open to all Monmouth County residents, especially high school students, the fair will feature representatives from over 50 employers, trade schools, trade unions and public works departments. Attendees will learn more about post-secondary training opportunities for careers in trade and skilled labor as well as other professions that don't require a college degree.
A complete list of participating organizations can be found online at http://www.mcgda.org/upcoming-events.html.
As NPR, Forbes and other media outlets have reported, each year hundreds of thousands of skilled trade jobs go unfulfilled in the United States due to a lack of qualified workers. Here in the Garden State articles from NJBIA, NJBiz and NJSpotlight.com, as well as a 2017 report from The Asbury Park Press that highlights hiring struggles experienced by a Monmouth County employer, show that New Jersey has its own "skills gap" to fill too.
