Gilda Rogers, The Dr. Myra Zinke Women’s Speaker

“Becoming Fearless in the Eye of the Storm” at the Unitarian Universalist Church

LINCROFT, NJ - The Unitarian Universalist Church has invited Gilda Rogers, the Vice-President of the T. Thomas Fortune Foundation, to be this year’s Dr. Myra Zinke speaker on Jan. 20, at 10:30 am.  The church is located at 1475 W. Front St., Lincroft.   The late Dr. Zinke supported women’s empowerment and an endowment in her name provides for an annual address, by a speaker, on women’s issue. The event is free and open to the public.

Rogers has been at the helm of the T. Thomas Fortune Foundation, a grassroots organization that worked tirelessly to save the home of noted African American journalist and social justice crusader, T. Thomas Fortune.  The Fortune Family resided in the 1850’s Second-Empire style home in Red Bank, from 1901-1912.   The National Historic Landmark has been fully restored by Roger Mumford of Roger Mumford Homes and is scheduled to have an Open House Preview for the community on Feb. 24 from 12 – 4 pm, in honor of Black History Month.

An adjunct professor at Brookdale Community College, Rogers teaches writing and the title of her talk is:  Becoming Fearless in the Eye of the Storm.  Rogers is also the author of three books:  Arrested Development: The State of Black Achievement & Education in Hip-Hop America, and Fearless: A Bold Approach to Reinventing Your Life, along with Out of the Ashes Came Hope, the Memoir of Monsignor William J. Linder.

“We’re on the cusp of celebrating the 100th Anniversary of women successfully fighting for the right to vote and as women we’ve had a turbulent journey on so many levels,” said Rogers. “However, we have stepped boldly into this millennium and are positioning ourselves to change society for the better.”
