To the Editor:

The statement “Mehta made history as the first American of Indian origin to win the nomination of any major political party for a statewide race…” is misleading.

Voters in Louisiana and South Carolina would take exception with that statement, as Governor Bobby Jindal and Governor Nikki Haley were the first and second governors of Indian descent in the United States, both nominated and elected to statewide office twice!
