Vote buttons on U.S. flag from League of Women Voters

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – At the suggestion of the Atlantic Highlands Democratic Club, the League of Women Voters Greater Red Bank Area chapter has offered to host a forum for the six candidates vying for the two open seats on the Atlantic Highlands Borough Council this year.

Democratic candidates Lesley D’Almeida and Brian Dougherty have already accepted the invitation and are waiting for the response of incumbent Councilman James Murphy and his running mate Ellen O’Dwyer -Woods, as well as independent candidate Zack Brown before a date can be set. Dougherty informs AHHerald that independent candidate Morgan Spicer has also accepted the invitation to participate in the proposed forum.

“We believe this is an excellent opportunity for the voters of Atlantic Highlands to hear directly from the candidates themselves – at the same time – on the issues they care most about,” said D’Almeida and Dougherty, in expressing their thanks to the LWV for offering to host the forum. “We look forward to confirming a date for this event and hope all candidates will participate.

The LWV pointed out that during the time of COVID, it adapted its forums to virtual webinars employing the same rules they have always followed for in-person events including using professionally trained moderators who have no connection to candidates or the towns of elections.

LWV members design questions to cover every salient point and issue harvested from local residents and screen out divisive questions or personal attacks to maintain a civil and decorous program.
