Holmdel, NJ– The Holmdel Township Committee is pleased to announce the grand opening of an inclusive and accessible playground at Allocco Park on Monday, August 9, 2021 at 5:00pm. The playground, which was built by Whirl Construction, is fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and will provide access for those with mobility issues and those who use wheelchairs.
In addition to the upgraded playground, other improvements included resurfacing of the play-space, landscape enhancements, park information upgrades, restoration of picnic amenities, and general park beautification. Holmdel received a $200,000 grant from the Monmouth County Open Space Grant Program as well as a $35,000 grant from Game Time Projects/MTC which helped offset the municipal costs of the project.
“Our goal was to ensure that public outdoor play areas are accessible to all children in Holmdel and the surrounding area,” said Holmdel Mayor Greg Buontempo. “We were grateful to receive funding assistance from the county and Game Time Projects which made it possible for us to construct this inclusive, accessible playground.”
Deputy Mayor Cathy Weber, the chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee agreed, saying, “the residents of Holmdel have been reaching out to the Township Committee for some time to request an ADA compliant playground. I am happy that we were able to make this a reality for our children.”
The grand opening will begin at 5:00pm on August 9th and will include remarks by the mayor and other dignitaries followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony. All members of the public are encouraged and welcome to attend.
Allocco Park is located at 299 Middle Road in Holmdel Township.
