ATL. HIGHLANDS – As the Jersey Shore springs back to life, the Atlantic Highlands Historical Society is relaunching Jersey Journeys, a popular program aimed at history buffs and sea lovers.     Partnering with Capt. Dan Schade and Classic Boat Rides, the Society is sponsoring a private, three-hour charter cruise on Sandy Hook Bay,  Saturday, Aug. 14 at noon.   Guests are invited to relax, escape the heat and enjoy a light lunch on the Navesink Queen, a vintage paddle-wheel boat, originally from Virginia.

Acclaimed journalist Muriel J. Smith, author of many books about New Jersey history, will share legends, lore and true stories about the Jersey Shore. Smith’s latest book, published last year, “The ABC’s of Highlands,” highlights many of the names and families that are part of that community’s history. Her talk on the Navesink Queen will include tidbits of information from various eras, location  and personalities along the route of the Navesink Queen.

The $50 per person cost includes lunch. A cash bar will also be offered along with sale of bottled water and soda. No coolers or outside beverages are  permitted.    Boarding begins at 11:30 a.m. for a prompt noon departure from Atlantic Highlands Marina, Frank’s Pier, slip 65.     Reservations are limited and advance payment is required.
