ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – The Atlantic Highlands Arts Council is featuring works by Jersey Shore mixed media artist Carla Valentino in our gallery windows at 54 First Avenue, Atlantic Highlands, from July 25 through Sept. 4.
Originally a painter, Valentino, who teaches fine art at Red Bank Catholic High School and is a mixed media instructor at Colorest Art Supplies in Red Bank, works in a wide variety of media including acrylics, watercolor, papers, prints, ink, and most recently has incorporated recycled materials that include found objects, cardboard boxes and particularly, plastic bottles in her work.Her paintings have been included in many exhibits and private collections throughout the region.
Her primary influences include nature, particularly the beach and ocean, personal history, the passage of time, as well as the basic elements of line, shape, color and texture. The works of Marc Chagall, Henri Matisse and Robert Rauschenberg, among others, have also been significantly influential.
