police cruisersKEANSBURG, NJ – On December 15, 2018, William Tindall 3rd, 25, of Jersey City was arrested and charged with theft, a 4th degree crime.

On December 14, 2018, Patrolman John Murray responded to a residence for a report of stolen packages. The resident stated she had several packages delivered throughout the day that had been stolen and provided video footage documenting the events. The video shows an Amazon delivery person place a package on the porch and return to his vehicle. A few moments later, the diver exits and approaches the residence again. He then removes several other packages, delivered earlier in the day from UPS and USPS, from the porch, places them in his vehicle, and drives away.

On December 15, 2018, Detective James Koempel and Det/Lieutenant William Brink were following up on the incident when they were notified by a borough worker about several opened packages in a garbage can. The packages not only belonged to the resident from the day before but also from residents in surrounding towns. In an attempt to locate the driver, and not knowing who was contracted to deliver the Amazon packages, Detective Koempel requested all officers be on the lookout for any vehicles making deliveries.

Shortly after, Patrolman John Swartz made contact with an Amazon Delivery person who stated he worked for Last Mile Delivery, a company, based in Elizabeth, subcontracted to deliver for Amazon. Detective Koempel made contact with the owner of the company, who identified the driver of packages as William Tindall 3rd.

With the help of Last Mile Delivery and the Metuchen Police Department, William Tindall 3rd was located and placed under arrest, where he was transported back to Keansburg Police Department and charged with theft.
