ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS — The First Presbyterian Church will be continue its “Theology of Music” series during its 10 a.m. Sunday worship service, focusing on the hymn “It Is Well With My Soul.”
Pastor Kathy Genus will officiate during the third week of the series, this week featuring “Standing on the Promises,” “He Leadeth Me,” ‘Bleast Be the Tie that Binds” and “My Faith Looks Up to Thee.”
Other hymns on tap are “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee,” “In Christ There is no East or West” and “Now We Thank You All Our God.”
“The theme of the service is remembering God is with us even in our deepest sorrows and tragedies,” according to Genus. “When we think all is lost and there is no hope is exactly when God is closest to us.”
The church will have a short hymn-sing prior to the beginning of worship, giving attendees a chance to be sure to hit all their favorites through the rest of the summer.
Genus’ sermon will be “Wen All Is Lost,” based on Phillippians 4:4-9 and Genesis 29:10-17.
Sunday’s liturgist is Judy Curry Phipps.
The church will also celebrate Holy Communion with a special liturgy.
Genus will continue a church-wide Bible study at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at the church.
All members and area residents are invited to Sunday’s worship service at the 127-year-old church at Third and East Highland Avenues.
The church’s next monthly summer service at the Gazebo in the municipal harbor will be on Aug. 26, followed by another on Sept. 23.
