ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS — The Rev. Dr. Byron E. Shafer will be the guest speaker at the 10 a.m. worship service this the first Sunday at the  First Presbyterian Church of Atlantic Highlands.

The church’s pastor, the Rev. Kathy Genus, will  return to the pulpit on May 13, Mother’s Day..

Elder Ray Carroll will serve as this Sunday’s liturgist.

Shafer, who lives in East Windsor Township, will preach a sermon entitled “Here’s to Lyndia and Priscilla,” .

He is an emeritus professor at Fordham University and pastor emeritus at Rutgers Presbyterian Church in New York City.

Shafer has been active in the Presbyterian Church USA for many years, including a stint training pastors in Bangalore, India. Between 1985 and 2003, Shafer served as the Protestant host of “Religion on the Line,” a three-hour Sunday morning interfaith call-in program broadcast on WABC Radio in New York.

The handicapped accessible church at Third and East Highland Aves., which celebrated its 127th anniversary last week, has extra parking available in the municipal lot next to the Christian Education Building on Highland avenue.
