Film competition welcomed 7 teams
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. ⎼ The Atlantic Highlands Arts Council’s FilmOneFest partnered with Monmouth University on April 20-21, 2018 in hosting their third annual Film Slam at Monmouth’s Lauren K. Woods Theatre at 400 Cedar Avenue, West Long Branch, N.J.
The Film Slam is a free 24-hour filmmaking competition in which teams of any size compete to create an original film under two minutes in length that includes specific elements assigned to them. At the start of the competition, all teams received a prop, location, and line of dialogue that they must incorporate into their film. This year the criteria given was a bird as the prop, a cemetery as the location, and “how about this weather” as the line of dialogue. Teams had exactly 24 hours to write the script, film, edit, and deliver the finished product back to the Woods Theatre by 7:30 pm Saturday evening.
This year, there were seven teams who competed in the Film Slam. First place was won by winners Kevin Meberg and Kevjack Manberg of team KevJack Manberg. The title of their film, A Bird Obscured, can be found on Vimeo using the link attached: https://vimeo.com/265922539. Their film will go on to be included in this year’s FilmOneFest on Saturday, July 21st. The second place movie, called Brother, was won by Cole Vallis, Alex Clyde, Mercedes Griffeth and Luke Falkenstern of team Popcorn Playaz. Special Delivery, which won third place, was by team The Bagsville Initiative, previous winners of the 2017 Film Slam. This year’s People’s Choice Award was won by Michael Manheimer, Victoria Regine, Thomas Hernandez, Alexandra James, and Carly Vena of team MCM Films. All team members were ecstatic to be winners this year.
FilmOneFest is pleased to have had the opportunity to partner with Monmouth University in hosting this event that was received by many supportive family members, friends, and patrons of the arts. It was truly rewarding to have seen so many people come together to appreciate film and the time and creativity the participants put in their work.
