ah first presbyterian 20180203ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS  — The Rev. Kathy Genus has been designated the new pastor of the First Presbyterian Church.

All area residents are invited to attend Sunday’s 10 a.m. worship service at the 127-year-old church at Third and East Highland Aves. and a reception honoring her following the service.

This week Genus’ message is entitled “The Extravagance of Love”‘ and will focus on scriptural passages in Mark where Jesus is annointed with costly perfume on the Wednesday of his last week on earth.

“The on lookers are aghast at how this expensive commodity was wasted,” according to her. “We will wrestle a bit with what exravagant love looks like. Are there times where frugality hinders our opportunity to love deeply and broadly?

“As the week goes on, Jesus walks closer to his death, closer to the ultimate gift of love. Can we really quibble over the cost of love?
