ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – The Rev. Kathy Genus will be Sunday’s guest speaker at the First Presbyterian Church.

She is also scheduled to preach at least through April 1.

All area residents are invited to attend the 10 a.m. service at the 127-year-old church at Third and East Highland avenues.

Following Sunday’s service, the church will hold its annual congregational and corporation meetings where it will elect members of the Session and Board of Deacons and adopt the 2018 budget.

Genus’ Sunday sermon is entitled “Watch Out! Where Go There Goes God” and is based on Bible passages from Mark 1:21-28.

“This is the story of Jesus casting out demons in the temple, his first act in the Gospel of Mark,” Genus says. “According to Matt Skinner in a commentary on preaching on Mark’s Gospel, ‘Jesus and his message represent nothing less than God’s attempt to enter into and reclaim our existence, bringing the reign of God into places where other reigns hold sway.’

On Feb. 11, Genus will continue in Mark. where “Jesus continues healing the sick and casing out demons before he moves on to preach in other towns.”

Genus, who lives in Toms River, has served congregations in the Monmouth and Elizabeth Presbyteries as a director of Christian Education.

She is a graduate of the New Brunswick Theological Seminary.
