sandy hook park signMiddletown, NJ – On December 6, 2017 at approximately 8:07a.m., Middletown Twp. Police responded to the area of Gunnison Beach on Sandy Hook for a drowning.  Police, along with Federal Park Rangers, arrived at the location and located the victim, Ronald Moore, 69, of Union in waist-deep water.  The victim was pulled from the water by Park Rangers, who initiated life saving measures. 

The victim was transported to Monmouth Medical Center in West Long Branch where attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.  The investigation by police showed that the drowning was accidental.  It was determined from a witness account that the victim had gone into the rough surf to retrieve equipment and was overcome by the waves.
