Tour a waterfall, castle & museum
ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ – The Atlantic Highlands Historical Society’s ‘Historic Jersey Journeys’ travel group continues its series on Sunday, December 17 with a bus tour to Paterson, NJ.
The event starts with a light breakfast at the Strauss Mansion Museum at 8:45am. At 9:50am guests will board a coach and head to 3 stops: the first being the Great Falls National Historic Park showcasing Paterson’s waterfalls, 77 feet high on Passaic River, which are among the nation’s largest. The site played a significant role in New Jersey’s industrial development.
The second stop will be Lambert Castle, decorated for the season. It’s considered one of our state’s best hidden historic gems. Built by silk manufacturer Catholina Lambert in 1892, it mimics a British castle. The property includes Italianate gardens, art galleries and an observation tower with a spectacular view in Garret Mountain Reservation. After this we sill have a tour of The American Labor Museum Botto House National Landmark which preserves the lifestyle of an immigrant family of the early 1900s. The home, once owned by a silk mill worker, became a haven for free speech and assembly of laborers. Today, it focuses on the history of organized labor and contemporary workers’ issues.
Space is limited so advanced registration, including payment, is required. Deadline for signup is December 5. The cost is $50. Tickets available online at ahhistory.org. For additional information please email mailto:[email protected] or call 732 291 1861
