The Monmouth Symphony Orchestra will open its 2017-2018 season on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 7:30 p.m., with an Armistice Day Salute program in the Michael T. Lake Performing Arts Center located at 55 Neptune Boulevard in Neptune, NJ.
Under the direction of Music Director Roy Gussman, the orchestra will present a patriotic program including works such as Victory at Sea, American Salute, Armed Forces Salute, the Elgar Cello Concerto featuring soloist Jameson Platte, The Banks of Green Willow, America the Beautiful and a surprise encore guaranteed to bring everyone to their feet!
A pre-concert interview of the soloist James Platte for the audience will take place at 6:45 p.m. Tom Avakian of the Monmouth Symphony will conduct the interview.
Roy Gussman has been Music Director of the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra since 1991. A graduate of Jersey City State College and the New England Conservatory of Music, Mr. Gussman serves as a trustee of the Monmouth Conservatory of Music and is principal clarinetist with the Orchestra of Saint Peter by the Sea. He recently retired as the conductor of the New Jersey State Senior Youth Orchestra.

The Monmouth Symphony Orchestra includes 75 professional and amateur musicians. The purpose of the Orchestra is to promote the performance of orchestral music to the greater Monmouth County area, through concerts, scholarships, educational performances and partnerships.
Monmouth Symphony Orchestra concerts are supported by the Monmouth Arts Council, The New Jersey State Arts Council on the Arts, PNC Bank and through private donations.
The Michael T. Lake Performing Arts Center is a 1,200 seat theater with outstanding acoustics. It provides a circular driveway in front of the theater for easy drop off and free-parking across the street, with traffic control provided by the Neptune Police Department.
Tickets for the Armistice Day Salute program are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and students are free with a proper ID.
