LINCROFT, NJ – Bruno Hamann, a professional photographer and mountain climber, will explain how John Muir broke every rule of modern mountain climbing when he almost died while climbing in the High Sierras. Hamann’s talk on the joys and dangers of mountainering will be held at 6 pm Monday, Oct. 23 at Brookdale Community College’s Lincroft Campus.
Hamann’s presentation, open to the public, includes the BCC Environmental Club and students, the Jersey Shore (Monmouth) Sierra Group, and other environmental organizations,
His talk is part of BCC’s “Science Monday” environmental lectures, which are hosted by BCC’s Environmental Club to inform students and the community on the importance of strong environmental protections.
Hamann , in the Sierran tradition, is a professional photographer, specializing in outdoor sports, such a mountain climbing and surfing. His talk on mountain climbing will emphasize the need for special physical conditioning, rigorous training in the art and science of climbing, using the proper equipment, never climbing alone, and knowing your own limits. He will also explain how Muir, an experienced climber, overextended himself when he climbed Mount Ritter by himself. Muir survived and went on to found the Sierra Club.
A pizza and subs buffet begins at 6:00 p.m. in Warner Student Life Center (SLC) Twin Lights Rooms I and II, and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.
