ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS — The Rev. Joanne Petto, a police chaplain, will be the guest speaker at the 10 a.m. Sunday First Presbyterian Church worship service at the Gazebo in the municipal yacht harbor.

She will preach on forgiveness as covered in the Bible in Matthew 18:21-32.

Her sermon is entitled “Forgive Us, as We Forgive … “

Petto reports that “Peter came to Jesus and asked him” how many times he should forgive someone who sinned against him and “Jesus  said to him, ‘Not seven times but I tell you seventy-seven times.”

Petto is in her 20th year as a law enforcement chaplain serving the Plainsboro Township Police Department and the N.J. State Police.  As a member of the NJ Crisis Intervention Network, she responds throughout the state to assist first responders who have been involved in traumatic incidents.  She is a disaster response crisis counselor and chaplain with the NJ Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services, Disaster and Terrorism branch, which is responsible for activating the state’s mental health disaster response in times of crisis.
