The Monmouth County Clerk’s Office is pleased to announce a photography contest  to promote Monmouth County historic preservation and history.

Monmouth County has a rich and distinct history dating back centuries. Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon invites high school students to showcase their favorite County historical site by entering our Archives and History Day Photography Contest.

This contest will be featured on Archives and History Day, which is an annual event hosted by the Archives Division of the County Clerk’s Office for the past 22 years. The event is designed for the public to connect with archivists, historians, and preservationists to learn more about the history of Monmouth County.  

The top three contest winners will be awarded their prizes at Archives and History Day between 11:15 a.m. and noon on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, located at 125 Symmes Drive in Manalapan.

Eligibility and Rules

  1. The contest is open to all high school students who reside in Monmouth County and/or attend a high school located in Monmouth County.
  2. Each entrant is permitted to submit one (1) original photograph of a historical site in Monmouth County, NJ. By submitting, the entrant agrees that they are the sole copyright owner of the image. Photographs manipulated for artistic purposes are permitted. This includes application of digital and/or traditional special effects.
  3. Entries will be accepted via email or mail from September 13, 2017 through October 4, 2017. Submissions may be sent via email to [email protected] with the subject “2017 Archives and History Day Photography Contest.” Within the email, please attach your image with a resolution of at least 1024 pixels wide.

Entries can also be submitted via mail on 8×10 inch paper in a plastic sleeve to:

How the photo is related to Monmouth County history:

  1. By submitting an entry, the entrant (in case of minors, the minor’s parent/legal guardians) grant the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office the rights to use and publish the photograph and entrant’s name, grade, and high school in print, electronically, and/or digitally. Authorization is also granted to the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office to publish the same in web content, which may include the Monmouth County Clerk’s website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, and YouTube pages. First, Second, and Third Place winners will be retained by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office for future use.
