ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS — The Rev. Paul F. Rack will preach on how Jesus’ resurrection unlocks the flow of the spirit within us during Sunday’s worship at the First Presbyterian Church.
The service marks the return to the pulpit of Pastor Rack, who recently underwent surgery.
Rack’s sermon at the 11 a.m. service is entitled “Living Water,” based on John 7:37-39, and will be conducted at the 127-year-old church at Third and East Highlands avenues.
“Jesus talks about the Spirit who will come to the disciples after his resurrection, according to the pastor. Jesus says the Spirit will well up from within the hearts of those who trust in him, like a river of living water.
“Jesus’ resurrection unlocks the flow of the Spirit within us. His resurrection is not just something that happened to him, it is also something that happens to us. It is the realization of God’s spiritual presence in us.”
Next Sunday, June 4, is Pentecost Sunday and all members and friends are urged to wear red in honor of the Holy Spirit, symbolizing the fire that came to his disciples. .
The second of the summer’s outdoor Sunday services will be held on June 25 at the gazebo in the municipal marina, followed by services on July 23, Aug. 27 and Sept. 24.
Vacation Bible School will be conducted by the Area Association of Community Churches July 10-14 and will be run by staffers from Camp Johnsonburg Presbyterian Camp.
