ah first presbyterian churchATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ – The Rev. Paul F. Rack will preach on the need to be reborn a second time during the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service — marking the Second Sunday of Lent — at the First Presbyterian Church.

All members and friends, as well as all area residents, are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served before and after the church service, which will be the first of the year during Daylight Savings Time.

The pastor’s sermon, entitled “Water and Wind” and is based on John 3:1-17.

“Jesus has a conversation with a guy named Nicodemus, the upshot of which is that having been born once is not enough,” according to Rack. “We must be reborn a second time “from above.

”In other words, our true nature, deeper than our ego-centric, mortal nature, must be realized. Most people go through their whole lives unaware that there even is a true nature beneath the existence we know.

“This rebirth is an awakening to our true selves in God, God’s image in us. In this awareness we realize we are one with everything. And we do it through seeing in Christ’s death our own transformation, and liberation to eternal life.”

Elder Judy Curry-Phipps will be the liturgist for the service.

The David Nunez-directed adult choir will perform special music during the service in the 127-year-old church at Third and East Highland avenues.

Child care is available during the service.

Installation of church officers will be conducted during the service.

Area residents are also invited to attend the pastor’s weekly “Bible by the Bay” Bible Study at 11 a.m. every Tuesday at Sissy’s Restaurant in the municipal marina.
