ah first presbyterian church

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS — The Rev. Paul F. Rack will be preaching on the need to respond to the deeper meaning of Hebrew law rather than the superficial letter of the law in his message during the 11 a.m. Sunday service at the First Presbyterian Church.

The pastor’s sermon, ah first presbyterian church….” is based on Matthew 5:31-37.

“The Lord gives a fairly rapid-fire list of commandments,” according to Rack. “You have heard it said … but I tell you…”

“Jesus is not negating the law, but driving to the heart of it and making its demands more profound and challenging. It is easier to just keep the superficial letter of the law; Jesus would have us respond to the deeper meaning of the law as peace, love, and justice.”

The David Nunez-directed adult choir will perform during the service in the nearly 127-year-old church at Third and East Highland avenues.
