MIDDLETOWN, NJ  – On November 26, 2016 at approximately 3:59p.m., officers from the Middletown Twp. Police Department and the Middletown Twp. Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 100 Hancock Court within Shadow Lake Village. Shadow Lake Village is an adult community for people 55 and older, located in the River Plaza section of Middletown Twp.

The initial responding officers observed that the second floor of the multi-family building was fully involved.  Emergency personnel located an 82 year old male victim outside the building, who had sustained second and third degree burns to his hands, head, and face.  The victim also suffered from smoke inhalation.  The victim was flown by helicopter to the burn center at St. Barnabus Hospital in Livingston.  The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the family.

The fire destroyed at least 3 residences in the structure.   The responding fire units included Middletown Fire Company #1, River Plaza Fire Company, Lincroft Fire Company, Old Village Fire Company, and Community Fire Company as well as the Fire Chiefs and Fire Marshalls Office.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
