RED BANK, NJ – Some graduations are celebrated with the ringing of bells. This one was celebrated with the ringing of chords.

On the evening of November 1, a group of 14 talented men officially graduated from a six-week course of singing lessons called “Ready, Set, Sing.”

The free course, offered by the Red Bank-based Chorus of the Atlantic and Matinee Idles barbershop choruses and taught by its music directors, Craig Page and John Huetz is open to men of all ages and levels of singing experience. Participants learn the basics of good vocal production and an appreciation of four-part a cappella harmony.

To show off their newly developed skills to an audience of members and friends, the new “graduates” joined the Chorus of the Atlantic on the risers for a great barbershop rendition of “Love Me And The World Is Mine” and holiday favorites, “Christmas Chopsticks” and “Jingle Bells.”

“They did a terrific job,” said Page. “And they had so much fun in the process that just about all of them have expressed an interest in joining the Chorus of the Atlantic.”

“The concept behind ‘Ready, Set, Sing’ is simple,” the director explained. “Give us six Tuesday evenings and we’ll give you the skills you need to experience all the fun of solo or group singing.”
