Dear Editor,

Assemblyman Michael Patrick Caroll (R-Morris) is right about legalizing the retail sale of cannabis for adults, in the same way as cigarettes. We also need to make sure that persons under the proposed 19 year old requirement for sales are not subjected to any penalty for possession, to protect those under 19 from an adult criminal record for a newly legal product, and we shouldn’t arrest juveniles either.

States like Colorado have created unfair systems where only rich people with clean records are able to legally grow and sell cannabis. We need to create an equal system where the mom-and-pop as well as Rastafari church operations can succeed, and legitimize the black market. Co-ops, not corporations. Communist ideas should be embraced for the cannabis industry, because capitalism means political mafia control.

Major legalization groups are run by wealthy white lawyers who still want prosecutions and red-tape because it is how they make unethical profits. They don’t care about the struggles of poor people.

The law should be called the Robert Edward Forchion Cannabis Act, in recognition of the nation’s most high profile African-American cannabis activist and operator of the famous NJ Weedman’s Joint and Liberty Bell Temple III in Trenton.
