Do you know the difference between a gambrel and a gable?
ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ – The Atlantic Highlands continues it’s bi-monthly architectural walking tours in October. The tour educates the viewers about the surviving house structures from the building boom in town which occurred at the end on the nineteenth century.
In 1879 there were 40 permanent residents, by 1893 there were 2,000 permanent and 6,000 summer residents in town. Future tours will expand to discuss twentieth century house styles.
This months tour focusses on Queen Anne, Gothic and Craftsman style examples. The tour starts at the Strauss Mansion, 27 Prospect Circle, Atlantic Highlands and takes 45 minutes. It is free for members of the Historical Society; suggested donation of $10 for non-members.
