Creative Choral Programming Marks New Season

RED BANK, NJ – Artistic Director Dr. Ryan James Brandau will lead the award-winning Monmouth Civic Chorus in a creative and stunningly beautiful 2016-2017 season, featuring traditional Christmas favorites in December, love songs in February, and music from the north in June. Subscribers are guaranteed the best seats and best prices for all three concerts.

After last year’s rousing success of Brandau’s Christmas Suite, the Artistic Director has expanded the composition for this year’s edition of the  chorus’ famed holiday performance. The expanded arrangement will feature selections from Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio along with Brandau’s moving arrangements of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, O Holy Night, Auld Lang Syne, and other holiday favorites.  The concert, titled Joy to the World, takes place on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. at the historic Count Basie Theatre, 99 Monmouth Street, Red Bank. Individual tickets for premium seating are $45 adult, $40 senior, $35 group (10 or more), $10 student; and for regular seating are $30 adult, $27 senior, $25 group, $5 student.  It won’t be Christmas without it!

The chorus celebrates the season of love with a valentine-themed presentation of Love is in the Air on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 4:00pm.  Dr. Brandau has programmed love songs, madrigals, ballads and poems from the Middle Ages to the Internet Age.  Love will fill the halls of the First Presbyterian Church at 255 Harding Road, Red Bank (Tower Hill). Tickets are $30 adult, $27 senior, $25 group, $5 student.

The season will close with the stunning music from the powerful singing traditions of the Baltics and Scandinavia in a diverse program titled Northern Lights.  Works from Pärt, Esenvalds, Tormis, Kreek, Miskinis, and more will make the journey from the great north to Monmouth County on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 8:00pm.  For the first time, the Chorus’ sounds will fill the sanctuary of St. Mary’s Church, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck. Tickets are $30 adult, $27 senior, $25 group, $5 student.
