mt libraryMiddletown, NJ- The Middletown Township Public Library’s annual Teen Summer Reading Program is almost here! The goal: read 5 books this summer. Teens will earn prizes for each book read, and can enter weekly raffles for even bigger prizes! Read to win. It’s that simple.

                Registration for the Teen Summer Reading Program is already underway. The program will officially start on June 27th and will end on August 26th. Prizes earned for reading include gift certificates for a Panera Bread cookie, Hole-in-One mini golf game, Brunswick Zone bowling game, Middletown Ice World Ice Skating pass, and a free book! For completing the 5 book goal, teens will also be entered to win one of our two Grand Prizes: A limo ride for you and your friends from MyLimo or Seastreak Ferry Passes to NYC and Museum of Natural History tickets. In addition, teens may enter weekly raffles for even more prizes! All local students entering grades 6-12 may sign up and participate in our program. Happy reading! All prizes were donated by their respective businesses.

                This year’s Teen Summer Reading theme is ‘Get in the Game, Read’. To encourage teens and tweens to ‘Get in the Game’, there is an exciting line-up of programs and activities at the library. Teens and tweens going into grades 6-12 may sign-up online for any of the following programs using our online calendar at http://www.mtpl.org or by calling (732) 671-3700 ext. 340.

-Teen Yoga Classes: Fridays at 2pm June 24th-August 26th. Take a free yoga class just for teens, taught by certified instructor Alice Balzarini.

-Video Game Design Class: Wednesdays at 4pm July 13th-August 24th. Learn to make exciting video games using Processing IDE.

-Self Defense Workshop for Girls: Monday, July 18th from 6-8pm. Participate in this hands-on and instructional self-defense workshop taught by Professor Angelica Oliveira of Gracie New Jersey Academy.

-Hearthstone Fireside Gathering Tournament: Saturday, August 13th starting at 10am. Bring your top 3 decks and compete in this double elimination tournament.

-Chess Tournament: Friday, August 19th at 1:30pm. Sign up for one of three age brackets and compete in this battle of wits.

-Write a Book for Teens and Tweens: Mondays at 3:30pm July 11th-August 22nd. Write and illustrate your own children’s picture book. Upon completion of the class, you will have a hardcover copy of your book to take home. For teens and tweens ages 10-17.

-Make a Harry Potter House Scarf: Thursdays in July at 4pm. Learn to crochet or knit your very own house scarf. Bring the color yarn you want and a crochet/knitting needle.

-Harry Potter and the Quest for the House Cup: Saturday, July 30th from 1-3pm. Compete house against house for the glorious house cup. Prove who knows the most about HP!

-TableTop Fantasy Age: Mondays June 27th, July 25th, and August 22nd at 7pm. Play Fantasy Age, a player guided, character driven RPG and choose your own adventure. Create your own character, and feel free to dress up, to battle against evil for GLORY…and to save the world!!

-Pizza and Pages Book Club: The second Monday of the month at 7:30pm. Meet each month to eat pizza and discuss your favorite books.
