MIDDLETOWN, NJ – At 6:04 PM on Friday May 27, 2016, the Middletown Township Fire Department was dispatched to a “working structure fire” at 901 Port Monmouth Rd, the Belford Seafood Co-Op Ice House in the Belford section of the Township. Approximately 65 firefighters from 6 companies of the Middletown Township Fire Department (Belford Engine, Belford Independent, Port Monmouth, Middletown Number 1 and River Plaza and Community Fire Companies), under the command of Department Deputy Chief Anthony Citarella, responded to the scene.
The first arriving units on the scene encountered a working structure fire heave fire and smoke issuing from the second floor of the commercial structure. The firefighters quickly employed two aerial master streams and three ground 2 1/2 blitz ground master streams. The building was unoccupied at the time of the incident. The aggressive attack prevented the fire from spreading to the other adjoining structures. JCP&L secured power and then isolated the loss of power to the involved structure.
Fire crews ensured that the fire was fully extinguished and used thermal imaging cameras to confirm that the fire had not extended beyond the original structure.
