Roberto’s Performance 6:30 sharp

“With every winged journey he took, He brought back knowledge, He collected visions of places, of people, of a life He someday wished to have”. Roberto Almeida

SHREWSBURY, NJ – Brazilian-born mixed media artist, Roberto Almeida, was already drawn to art by the age of four. Art became his passion. Without truly understanding the notion of adulthood and careers, he instinctively knew that art was essential to his essence as a person and was as necessary for him as much as food, water, or air. For him, drawing and painting was an indispensable life-saving outlet thatallowed him to cope with many of the difficulties and struggles that he faced as a child. Through his adolescence, he studied the artistic styles and techniques of the “old masters” including the rich history of Brazilian painters from Aleijadinho to Weingärtner as he forged his own style that has evolved into a bridge of expressionism with Pop art.

Throughout his current work, he depicts ravens, the oft-referenced black plumaged carrion-eating birds in literature and in cultural legends, to symbolize the struggles of early childhood. Each painting tells the story of his ever-present battle for freedom and his pursuit of happiness. Eventually, and happily, the raven undergoes a metamorphosis, transforming into a dove. Roberto has already participated in numerous shows, fairs and events in New York, New Jersey, and in his native Brazil. The time that he has spent painting has been the most rewarding time of his life, and there has been no greater gift than sharing his work with others.

In addition, small works by Guild Exhibiting and Associate members – reflecting an assortment of media and subject matter – will be on display in the studio.
