ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ – The Atlantic Highlands Historical Society has taken first place in the Kevin M. Hale Publication Awards competition sponsored by the League of Historical Societies of New Jersey for its 2016 brochure for the Strauss House Museum.

Originally called the Newsletter Awards, the Kevin M. Hale Publication Awards were created to mark the achievements of member societies, many of whom are all volunteers.

The League of Historical Societies of New Jersey was founded in 1966, is comprised of more than 225 organizations representing more than 45, 000 individual members. While most of the organizations in the league are local historical societies, it also includes statewide societies and related institutions, county agencies, museums, libraries and archival groups, historic preservation agencies, and a variety of other organizations devoted to and interested in New Jersey history.

The award winning brochure was designed by Lynn Fylak, president of the Historic Society, and a professional art director and book designer in her personal life.  Fylak also designed the award several years ago which earned the second place honors for poster design from the NJ Historic Trust.

A former art director and book designer for Christie’s Auction House, New York City, a name synonymous with unparalleled service, expertise and international glamour since 1766, Fylak directed artwork for promotion of the company’s hundreds of auctions in its offices and sales rooms around the world for more than 18 years.
