COLTS NECK, NJ – “A Man Called Ove” by Fredrik Backman, is the April selection at the Colts Neck Library Book Club, a branch of the Monmouth County Library.   The library is located at 1 Winthrop La, in the township government offices complex. Information on the branch is available on the library website at

The Book Club will meet Tuesday, April 5 at 10:30 a.m. and Thursday, April 7 at 7 p.m.

This is Backman’s first novel, which has already sold more than half a million copies in his native Sweden. It is scheduled to be published in more than 25 languages.

A Swedish blogger and columnist, Backman was reported to be the most successful author in Sweden in 2013. He is also the author of “Things My Son Needs to Know About Life.”

The Colts Neck Book Club selection tells the story of Ove, a curmudgeon with staunch principles, strict routines and a short temper better known to those around him as “the bitter neighbor from hell.” The book tells of Ove’s personal story of sadness, his eventual interaction with a neighboring couple and their daughters, and the impact it has all had both on Ove himself as well as the neighborhood in which he lives.
