She first began serving on the Atlantic Highlands Elementary School (AHES) Board of Education in April of 1996 and became President in 2002. Over the past twenty years, Mrs. Weimer and the AHES Board of Education have worked diligently with the staff, administration, elected officials, and community to enhance educational opportunities for all students, while providing a safe learning environment.

The AHES Board of Education also formed key strategic partnerships with Highlands Elementary School and Henry Hudson Regional School, allowing for the formation of the “tri-district”. This partnership enhances educational needs and saves taxpayer dollars through sharing of services; the schools currently share a superintendent, curriculum director and director of special needs, allowing for educational and financial efficiencies to each of the three districts.

Her former & current Superintendents, Board of Education peers, school administrators, teachers and staff honored Mrs. Weimer for her service in December 2015. Mr. Chris Rooney, former Superintendent stated, “Mrs. Weimer was the best Board of Education president I’ve ever worked with”. Current Superintendent, Dr. Susan Compton, echoed his sentiments, “Mrs. Weimer has been an amazing partner to work with. She has left a phenomenal legacy not only for Atlantic Highlands Elementary, but also for the entire tri-district. Thank you for your tremendous leadership!”

During her tenure, Mrs. Weimer and the AHES Board of Education have worked to implement a long list of impactful projects. Most recently, Mrs. Weimer and the AHES Board of Education were instrumental in setting the stage and tone for developing an innovative Strategic Plan for Atlantic Highlands Elementary as well as Highlands Elementary and Henry Hudson Regional. Other key projects include the PTO landscaping in front of the school, GoSprouts.org and the learning school garden program, building addition educational spaces for science & technology labs as well as a media center, cafeteria, music/band room, new kindergarten rooms, and challenge reading & math programs. They also worked to establish one-way traffic flow around school to enhance safety, provide school security enhancements, solar panels and turning the asphalt yard into a completely new playground, school-wide wireless Internet access, and a computer in every classroom.

Mrs. Weimer will certainly be missed, but her contributions to Atlantic Highlands Elementary will be felt for many years to come! Thank you for all your hard work and years of service.
