MIDDLETOWN, NJ – Jersey Central Power and Light reports 1622 customers were without power in Middletown on Friday morning.  A transformer fire was the cause of the outage in the Belford area of town.

James Golembowski‎, of Middetown, was driving by the Carvel’s Ice Cream in area of Campbell’s Junction at 7:10 AM when he observed the fire and captured a picture of the transformer in flames.

Power was restored a little after 8 a.m. Friday.
