MIDDLETOWN, NJ – Jersey Central Power and Light reports 1622 customers were without power in Middletown on Friday morning.  A transformer fire was the cause of the outage in the Belford area of town.

James Golembowski‚Äé, of Middetown, was driving by the Carvel’s Ice Cream in area of Campbell’s Junction at 7:10 AM when he observed the fire and captured a picture of the transformer in flames.

Power was restored a little after 8 a.m. Friday.
