ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ – The United Methodist Churches of Atlantic Highlands and Navesink will host a Traditional All Saints Jazz Worship Service on Sunday November 1 at 10am. All Saints Day is celebrated by the church each year on the first Sunday in November. It is on this day that those who have gone to meet their God are remembered.
“When we lose loved ones we are sad and we mourn their passing. Our sadness and grief, however, are for ourselves. For the deceased, however, it is their day of Victory! They have met their God and are at home with God. It is what they have been preparing for all their lives. So on this particular Sunday, we lay aside our grief and celebrate their victory over death,” said Reverend Jill Hubbard-Smith.
During the service, the congregation will remember those who have died this past year by sharing their name with the ringing if a chime. Holy Communion will also be offered.
The church will also welcome special guest musician David Rimelis to the All Saints Service. Rimelis is an accomplished performer who has played with numerous orchestras around the country, as well as the United Kingdom and Australia. He is an artist-in-residence for the New Jersey State Council on The Arts, a teaching artist for the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and Director of Music Education for the AIDS Resource Foundation for Children in Newark, New Jersey.
Rimelis will join the church’s Creative Arts and Music Director, Conrad Erdt to bring the sounds of Jazz into the worship. They will lead the congregation to joyfully sing “When the Saints Go Marching In” along with other old favorite hymns “Amazing Grace,” “Victory in Jesus,” “For All the Saints,” “Shall We Gather at the River,”and “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder.”
