COLLEGE 101 & RESOURCES FOR LATINO STUDENTS –The final session of this informative series of workshops for Latino parents and students will be held on Wednesday, November 4 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Red Bank Public Library. Join us to discuss the American college system and available college resources. Receive important information about SAT prep, college applications, financial aid, loans, scholarships and more. The session will be led by Juliana David, MEd Psych, and will be conducted ONLY in Spanish. FREE babysitting and light refreshments will be offered. Registration is required. SAT PRACTICE TEST – High School students, are you ready to take the new SAT? The redesigned SAT will be administered starting in the spring of 2016. The updated SAT will feature a number of significant changes designed to focus on a deeper understanding of the skills and knowledge necessary for college and career readiness.
On November 7, from 10 am until 2 pm students can take a practice test of the New SAT test at the Red Bank Public Library. The test will be administered by C2 Education. After taking the practice test, students will then receive their score results along with a free comprehensive consultation from the local Middletown C2 Education center. The LET’S TALK ABOUT RACE discussion series continues with the fourthsession to be held on Wednesday, November 18 at 7:00 p.m. The Red Bank Public Library invites you to participate in this important conversation that explores race and culture in the context of literary works and the social mores of cultural identity and class. Mixed media presentations and guest speakers support the theme of the discussion, and moderator Gilda Rogers will discuss the groundbreaking 1967 Supreme Court case, Loving vs. Virginia, which tore down states’ rights to outlaw interracial marriage. The results promise to be enlightening and informative! An open and honest dialogue is encouraged. Thenext meeting of the Artists’ Workshop at the Red Bank Public Library is on Thursday, November 5 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Artists seeking inspiration, motivation, and time to devote to their work are invited to attend on the first Thursday of each month. Red Bank artist Joe Bergholm is the Workshop’s Artist-in-Residence and consults with the artists as a group and individually, offering suggestions for subjects as well as guidance in principles of art such as color, composition, and the selection and use of materials. The “Artists’ Workshop” is free and no registration is required. Participants should bring their own drawing and painting materials, although oils are not permitted because of ventilation concerns. The program is supported by a generous contribution from the Friends of the Red Bank Public Library.
English as a Second Language classes for adults 18 and over are conducted by the Literacy Volunteers of Monmouth County at the Red Bank Public Library from September through June. The latest session began in September and meets weekly on Thursday evenings. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the group will not meet on Thursday, November 26. The Red Bank Public Library hosts an adult book discussion group, Readin’ on the River, on the third Wednesday of each month from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Red Bank Public Library. As a result of the Thanksgiving holiday the group will meet in November on Thursday, November 19, 2015 to discuss What She Left Behind by Ellen Marie Wiseman. The Red Bank Public Library welcomes The River Read Reading Series to the Library. The series is dedicated to bringing original poetry and other literary genres to Red Bank residents and visitors. All are welcome to come and listen to featured readers and participate in the Open-Mic sessions. The group meets the second Saturday of each month at the Library from 11:30 am-1:30 p.m. Come to listen—come to share.
Free one-hour, one-on-one Computer Tutor classes are available at the Red Bank Public Library at the following times: Tuesdays 3-5 p.m., Thursdays 4-69 p.m., Fridays 2-4 p.m. Learn computer and internet basics from our knowledgeable and patient volunteers. The Red Bank Public Library offers free weekly one-hour Yoga for Adults on Fridays from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. The class is appropriate for all levels of yoga experience. Please bring your own yoga mat. Registration is not required. Participants attend on a first come, first served basis up to a total of twenty people.

The Red Bank Senior Center in cooperation with the Red Bank Public Library hosts a book discussion group on the last Monday of each month at the Senior Center at 1:00 p.m., except in December. Borough residents age 60 and over may join the Center and participate in this or any of its other great programs.
The Friends of the Red Bank Public Library hold their monthly meeting every second Thursday starting at 3:00 p.m. The next Friends Board meeting will be November 12, 2015. All are invited to attend.

When visiting the Library be sure to check out our many displays. In November, in honor of Native American Heritage Month, we hope you will enjoy a small display of Indian crafts, jewelry, books, kachinas and more. Pieces come from across the continental United States and the Pacific Northwest, including sculpture and jewelry from First Nations tribes. We will also be presenting a collection of handmade basketry from the United States and Canada. Also in November, you will view a new exhibit from artist Lisa Bagwell — a flock of hanging geese made from all recycled materials. Bagwell states, “Over ten years ago I began collecting non-recyclable items that were destined for the landfill in an attempt to ease my ecological footprint and simultaneously focus my creative impulses through sculpture. My sculptures have ranged from mobiles, lamps and busts to depictions of birds, people and food. “
