Atlantic Highlands, NJ – Hunt for ghosts and explore secret passages of the paranormal in this 45 minute walking tour of the town’s hidden – and haunted! — history!
In its fourth year, The Atlantic Frightlands Creative Group (which previously created the haunts for the Strauss Haunted Mansion Tour) has turned its eye towards a new venue: the entire main street of Atlantic Highlands!
Organizer Jon Crowley says, “There’s so much history along First Avenue — from pirates to gangsters and dozens of ghost sightings and paranormal activity that it was a no-brainer to do a walking ghost hunt in the middle of our town!”
The tours start at The Painted Frame (78 1st Ave) on Friday, October 16th and Saturday, October 17th and run continuously from 8-10pm with several stops along historic First Avenue, including the Memphis Pig Out BBQ where rum-running mobsters unloaded their illegal cargo via a secret basement tunnel from the nearby marina to points elsewhere in New Jersey. The underground passage has long ago been boarded-up, but the owners of the establishment swear a ghost is still living in its dank corners. The same for the shop owner of Vintage Variety who swears her ghost has a bit of an attitude and isn’t afraid to, “toss a book across the room when he wants his privacy.”
“The new event is a safe alternative to trick-or-treating and a great way to help fund our free summer arts camp for the local kids,” said Maggie Moro, President of the Arts Council. “The tour will feature stories of the town’s history, colorful characters, ghost stories, and I’m pretty sure will conjure more than a few spirits along the way,” said Jon Crowley.
