“Sure” by Aaron Wexler

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth University’s Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the opening of a new gallery exhibit by Aaron Wexler, a visual artist based in Brooklyn New York, taking place in the Rotary Ice House Gallery, September 8 to November 13. Creating drawings, collages, objects and installations, Wexler’s work investigates shapes in nature as they relate to abstraction in painting. Wexler will give an artist lecture on Thursday, September 24 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. in Wilson Auditorium and the opening reception will follow in the Ice House Gallery from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Wexler collects representations of abstraction of nature in prints, books, and photographs. From these source materials he makes drawings and collages, which become cut and paste blueprints to build his surface layers on the picture plane. To Wexler “Collage is a form of sampling but for me it’s what’s in between those samples, which is just as exciting. My selection process of shapes, images and paint is based in poetic responses on how I respond to formal elements—it is in that act that I find profound meaning.”

Wexler received his M.F.A from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago in 1999. His work has been included in various solo and group shows in New York and London including the Morgan Lehman Gallery, Josee Bienvenu Gallery, The National Academy Museum, and Katonah Museum of Art, among others.

The Ice House Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. All gallery events are free and open to the public. For more information about this exhibition and all Monmouth University Center for the Arts events visit or call 732.263.5715.
